Hi my name is john and this is my story. One day I was watching my son playing in the dirt. He sempt happy even tho we weren’t the richest of all. Infact we where pretty poor our home inst that big we share a bed and there are only 2 rooms the bedroom and the kitchen. But we are still alive and healthy. My son suggested that we go and try our luck hopefully come back with some gold in our pockets so the next day I said we would set off for Ballarat.
August 2nd 1853
We have just arrived at Ballarat it was a long and hard journey it cost £5 to get there for food.On the trip we only had verry few rashins. We spent £2 on a pic axe and the other £22 on food. We got alot of mutten and bread and £2 on water and tea. We used the last £2 on a pan me and my son would take shifts in mining and panning we would work for 4 hours a day then we would play and rest.

We were at Ballarat for 4 days then I thought that we should go back home but my son said that we should stay for 1 more day. So I said that we would. We woke up the next day all hyped to find gold when my son shouted ouch he rolled his ankle. He tripped on a massive gold nugget. He didn’t care bought the pain he just was happy abought the gold he wasn’t crying because pain he was happy. We went to cash it in and we got £400 from it I was glad I listened to my son to say another day.
August 6th 1853
I woke up the next day when I heard a bush ranger checking for licences I was trying to remember if i had bought a licence.Dam we didnt buy a licence and we found our fortune. We can not just lose it today. We must spend some on food the bush ranger came to our tent he say all the money. He started to ask us questions abought where we got all the money from. My son said we brought it here he was lieing and I knew it I told the ranger that we are verry poor. I thought he would let us go he didnt he took all our money and fined us for lying. I was really mad at my son for trying to get us off the hook it didnt work and got us in more debt.
August 7th 1853
I was still mad at him from yesterday I know he was trying to be helpfull but it didnt work out. I thought I raises my son differntly ut apparently I didnt. I despise liars they deserve to be where they belong back in school to learn to be a man and not lie. I was thinking how are we going to get all this money back I can go ask my brother it might work if I get my child to ask. I made my child go and ask he didnt want to because he dosent like my rother but he likes him so he asked him. My brother only gave him £200. It was a start but we still needed £150 to be out of debt.
